My dream of becoming a mom finally came true this summer when my husband and I welcomed a baby girl, Iris Ray. It has been a long journey getting to this beautiful place in my life. Feeling so very blessed and inspired.
It’s that time of year again, the Enormous Tiny Art Show is happening at Nahcotta!
I’ve been wanting to experiment with acrylics and thought this would be the perfect opportunity. This series of paintings was directly inspired by a passage in An Island Garden by Celia Thaxter. She wintered on the mainland and describes making the journey from Portsmouth with her precious seedlings and household belongings out to Appledore Island on a small steam tug, the Pinafore.
“… a pretty sight is the little vessel when she starts out from the old brown wharves and steams away down the Piscataqua River, with her hurricane deck awave with green leaves and flowers, for all the world like a May Day procession.”
Like Ms. Thaxter, I am obsessed with my garden.
I will be exhibiting a group of larger works (and a few small bears) from my Gardener & the Bear series at the lovely White Heron Cafe in Portsmouth. I am excited to be able to exhibit works from this series together in such a bright and sunny setting. They specialize in organic tea — I’m loving their Capetown Sunset herbal tea at the moment;)
This is my latest painting in the series, “Weekend Warrior”, 24 by 24 inches
