Joie de Vivre: Night Sky
Inspired by simple pleasures and the exuberant enjoyment of life, what the French refer to as “ joie de vivre”.
I am drawn to old objects, inventions dating back hundreds of years. For their craftsmanship and beauty, their complicated simplicity. I was originally inspired to paint a telescope after happening upon a group of local astronomy enthusiasts who gather in Market Square in summer months to share their scopes and knowledge. The telescope has become a symbol in my work, representing that often overwhelming feeling of being so small in a great big world. In the comfort of familiar surroundings, exploring far off places. Thinking about the unknown.
