My children each sleep with a noise machine. It's shaped like an owl and projects a light onto the ceiling, a circle of stars and moons. It's been a constant. We bring it when we go on vacations. Purchased an extra for naps at Nanna's. Through dreams, good and bad. Sickness. My daughter was suffering from night terrors last year. It took us a few months to figure out that was what was going on. I've never been so sleep deprived in all of my life. We would wake to her screaming and crying in the middle of the night. Every night. I often cried each day as I felt more and more desperate and alone. It wasn't until I slept in her room one night when she was sick that I figured it out that it was night terrors, which for those of you who don't know is essentially like sleepwalking but it begins with thrashing and escalated to screaming. Though she appeared to be awake, she was still sleeping. And we were doing the worst thing which is waking her up. My heart broke, then I picked up the pieces and did extensive research. The night terrors lessened over time. She hasn't had one since. We are all blessed to be sleeping thru the night once again to the sound of gentle waves and under the soft glow of stars and moons.
