Another collection of new paintings will become available in my online shop on Saturday, June 27th at 11am (EST). The new series will include 10-12 new oil paintings ranging in size from 6x6 to 10x10.
My "Joie de Vivre" series began with the intention of celebrating the little things that bring me great joy. I've painted lots of sweet treats, and while I do have a weakness for baked goods, they carry more meaning than simply indulging. They bring back memories of my childhood. Both of my grandmothers passed away by the time I was seven years old. I struggle to remember them but I have vivid memories of baking lattice top pies with my Mimi and eating a sublime slice of lemon meringue pie made by my Grandma. Though neither of them actually taught me how to bake, I like to think that I inherited my passion for baking from each of them. Over the past few months baking alongside my daughter has become something I've turned to for comfort. It never ceases to amaze me how the careful combination of a few simple ingredients can result in something so beautiful and delicious.
There is also the fantasy element. In my world the fox doesn't eat the squirrel, they share a table, toast to happiness, eat fancy cakes (and never count calories)
